One of our brand ambassadors Charlotte explains how she heard about K9 Nation and why she got involved with the community..
Where do you live?
What’s your favourite thing about having a dog?
I have had dogs all my life. When I was growing up my family always had Labradors and my love of dogs started early! The best thing about having a dog is the joy they bring and the happiness they find in the smallest things. Oscar and Monty bring lots of smiles and laughs to me and everyone around us. I also enjoy the fact that dogs get us outside come rain or shine, I love the outdoors and the boys are my daily walking partners. At the weekends we enjoy exploring a new place with the dogs, and since Monty joined the family, we have started to participate in some dog sports. We do Mantrailing and Scent work – there is never an opportunity to be bored with the dogs around. Dogs really are the best therapy for me!
Tell us a bit about Oscar and Monty
Oscar and Monty are an unlikely duo!
Oscar the Westie is approaching 4 years old, my partner brought Oscar home just a few weeks after we met, so technically Oscar belongs to him, but as chief dog walker I quickly became Oscar’s favourite human! Oscar lives for his walks, he loves exploring new places, chasing balls, playing hide and seek and bubbles – he can often be found in the garden playing bubbles with my partner’s children.
After sadly losing my old Labrador Hettie last summer and dog sitting for a friend for 5 weeks at the start of the year we decided it was time to get a new puppy and companion for Oscar.
Monty is a 7 month old (not so miniature) miniature labradoodle, his mum was a working lab and his dad a miniature poodle but most people assume he is a full Labrador. Monty loves adventures, swimming in the sea, sniffing, meeting other dogs and of course, Monty LOVES food!!
How did you first hear about K9 Nation?
I found out about K9 Nation through Facebook, I had been following the story of K9 Nation since the beginning. We thought the K9 clean up initiative in August was a brilliant idea. We took part in a few litter picks and we were shocked at just how much litter we found when we started to look for it. It was great to be part of the K9 clean up and feel like we were making a difference, both to the Dogs Trust but also to local communities too. When I read K9 Nation was launching an app it was perfectly timed. Monty was just a puppy and during lockdown I found myself often googling things related to caring for the dogs; training, grooming, places to walk, dog-friendly holidays, the list goes on. So an app with loads of resources in one place just sounded ideal!
What attracted you to using the app?
The K9 Nation app is like a community of other dog owners, people just like me. I love the fact you can use the app in lots of different ways: find a new walk, read an interesting blog, connect with other dog owners, recommend a local business. These days our phones are our go-to for everything, so having everything dog-related on one app is perfect and as someone who loves dogs, an app all about dogs is just amazing!
We love travelling with the dogs, in fact, we recently took a trip to the Isle of Wight, where we spent a week exploring the beaches. Monty’s first staycation. The app goes with you, we use it to find new walks wherever we are in the country and when we have completed a walk we leave a review to help other dog owners find new adventures too.
Do you have a favourite feature on the app?
This is a tough question! I have really enjoyed reading some of the articles and blogs on the app and connecting with other dog owners but I think my favourite feature would be discovering new walks to enjoy with the boys!
What would you say to anyone who was thinking about downloading the app and joining the K9 Nation community?
I would say go for it, you wont regret it. Every dog owner will find something they enjoy on the K9 Nation app and it’s completely free. Don’t forget to connect with me, Oscar and Monty when you join, we love making new friends and connecting with likeminded people!
What made you decide to become a brand ambassador?
I wanted to help spread the word about the K9 Nation app to help other dog owners feel like they are part of the K9 Nation community too. We all want the absolute best for our dogs and the app will help dog owners share experiences, get guidance from experts through the articles and blogs (and the K9 Nation podcasts which I have really enjoyed listening to), find out about local canine businesses recommended by the fellow K9 Nation community and equally give the opportunity for us to recommend great walks and businesses to others too.
