An avid supporter of K9 Nation and one of our new brand ambassadors, Joanne Buckley tells us why her and her dog Buckles have loved being part of the community for so long.
Where do you live?
Can you tell us a bit about Buckles?
He’s a chocolate brown cockapoo. He was our first dog and we got him in April last year. He was born in February 2019 so he’s 18 months old now. He’s got a lovely little personality and he’s so funny- he’s just bonkers!
What’s your favourite thing about having a dog?
For me, it’s finding all the different places to go out. We’ve been on so many walks which we wouldn’t have known existed had it not been for having a dog. When we first got Buckles, we knew there were local parks that most people go to, but we were looking for places that are a bit more off the beaten track for us to explore. He loves being out on a walk and he’s really good off the lead, so as soon as you get out the car he’s off!
I also think if I’d been in lockdown without the dog I would have gone insane! Even on days when the weather was rubbish, I could still at least leave the house to walk the dog. Having the company at home really helped as well. I’m sure he’s tired of me talking to him all the time now!
How did you first hear about K9 Nation?
I found K9 Nation through Instagram. It popped up as a suggested account, so I saw it on there and then I downloaded the app. It enabled me to find all these different walks. I started doing reviews on all the walks we’d done and got in touch with K9 Nation. I recommended all the places we’d been and it became a regular hobby for me to go on a walk, get home and upload a picture, then write a review for K9 Nation.
What attracted you to using the app?
We hadn’t had a dog before, so the app really opened our eyes to so many new places. It’s helpful to be able to search walks by distance, so we could find walks which are more local, walks half an hour away, an hour away or more. We’ve also used it when we’re away and don’t know the area, if we’ve gone to Derby, Skegness, or down to Cornwall, for example. I always use it to find beaches because sometimes you can’t tell how restricted they are at certain times of year and you can check if you’re allowed to take your dog, if they have car park chargers, or if you have to pay by cash or card. It just takes the stress out of travelling with a dog.
What features are you excited to use on the new/updated app?
It will be interesting to see what it’s like as a social platform and I’d like to use it to interact and plan meet-ups with local dog owners or find different social events. It will also be useful for when we’re out and about so we could check if there’s a dog friendly cafe we can visit. Buckles comes everywhere with us so it’ll make it easier to plan trips. I also find it helpful to read other people’s pros and cons of a walk so we know what a place is like before we get there. It saves us trawling through online sites for hours trying to find the right places to take him.
Why did you decide to become a brand ambassador?
I’ve spoken to so many people about K9 Nation and a lot of our friends have dogs so I’ve been spreading the word for a while. It’s so useful for first-time dog owners and other people are bound to be in a similar situation to us. K9 Nation really opens up so much more information to the dog community.
What would you say to anyone thinking about joining K9 Nation?
Absolutely join up, you won’t be disappointed! There’s plenty of information on there, it’s a nice, friendly community, and the team is really active on social media. It’s my go-to directory for finding walks.
Finally, did you take part in the K9 Clean up?
We did! We went out over the weekend and even bought a litter pick! To help make a difference to the local area, we found a walk where there’s usually lots of litter, and we did find quite a lot. Buckles was excited to get his clean-up package through the door and he was happy to pose for photos in his new gear!
